Dustin - a lung lobectomy due to grass seed inhalation.

When dog's inhale grass seeds, they can travel down to the lung and potentially cause an abscess. This can lead to coughing, fever, lethargy and dyspnoea - all being the case with Dustin. Untreated, it can be a life-threatening condition and Dustin presented extremely unwell.
Dr Ingrid Goodman, VSS Medicine Specialist, did an incredible job of stabilising Dustin, and after identification of a suspect accessory lung lobe abscess on CT scan, I performed a median sternotomy and lung lobectomy of this affected lobe.
Dustin recovered well and histopathology identified a grass seed within the lung lobe! (cool). He recovered well in PetICU with a chest drain and was discharged to a very happy owner who tearily exclaimed 'this is the best dog I've ever had'.
