Button's for Tabitha

Labial Button Sling for a caudal mandibular fracture - (yes buttons, as in from a jumper).

Tabitha presented to VSS Jindalee after being attacked by a dog. She had sustained a caudal mandibular fracture with mandibular symphysis separation. I was immediately on the phone to Advanced Animal Dentistry and Dr Bec Tucker sent me the link to an article with a very handy technique. This was an extremely simple technique to perform and could easily be performed in general practice for the appropriate case. It utilises 3 buttons, with the aim to hold the jaw in alignment whilst the fracture heals. I also sutured the symphysis with the usual technique utilising 0 Nylene.

Tabitha came in for a check-up with Specialist Dentist Dr Bec Tucker. She was happy with Tabitha's dental alignment and occlusion (phew) so she will stay in her sling for the duration of fracture healing. I also placed an oesophageal feeding tube, so adequate nutrition can be maintained.

I wanted to share this technique with everyone! See below for the reference.
