Bella - open thoracic surgery

This made my Christmas - little Bella came back to see me today for her 10 day recheck post open thoracic surgery to ligate her PDA.

A PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) occurs when there is an abnormal connection between the aorta and the pulmonary artery. Dogs cannot live with this abnormality and eventually it progresses to complete congestive heart failure. Options for PDA include surgical ligation via thoracotomy (open chest surgery) or transarterial coil. Bella was too tiny for a coil, so she was referred to the surgery team for surgery. The repeat echo (heart check by cardiology) for Bella read 'normal heart and cardiac function, can discontinue heart meds'. Thank you Bella for making my Christmas, you were adorable in your Santa outfit.
