This first video is a quick reminder on how to place a modified Robert-Jones dressing. This is the most commonly placed bandage in our hospital.
TIP: Have you ever been confused about the word 'modified'? It simply means the traditional cotton wool layer has been replaced with softban. It is user preference as to which to use and I don’t know of any literature that supports the use of one over the other. Softban is more convenient than cotton wool. TIP: For fractures, these bandages are only applicable for temporary stabilisation of fractures BELOW the elbow or stifle. Don't bandage humeral or femoral fractures.
TIP: If a patient goes home with a bandage, always give owners bandage care instructions - the main thing is that they know the signs to watch for that the bandage is too tight. You are welcome to use the link to the video we made on this, where I explain everything your clients need to know about bandage care. https://youtu.be/Lhp96fthmIc
